The book you mentioned is good but I'd recommend you learn NFP from a teacher. We are part of the Couple to Couple League www.ccli.org. There are teachers throughout the country and world and you can register for US classes online. A one-time investment (around $125 these days for the materials and 3 classes) for a lifetime of NFP. NFP can be used by women with regular or irregular cycles. Learning about your body could teach you things about your fertility, nutrition and fitness! Also CCL teaches you how to come off the Pill so you can continue to postpone pregnancy. I wish you well!!

Yay babies! I'm thinking of starting a family sometime soon too. Although, I had a friend get pregnant the month she stopped birth control, so I haven't stopped the pill yet. I plan to stop the month I'm ready to start having kids and hope for the best. I think I'll try NFP if I can't get pregnant after 6mo or so.

I have a friend who did nfp (the cervical mucous looking at plan?) and she got pregnant the month after she got married. But I think she wasn't one to pay too much attention to the details of the nfp method. She swears her mom and sister have been using the temperature method for years now and find it successful. I think she may also have the "taking charge of your fertility" book that Melissa described. And she said if she were to try it again (she now has an IUD) she would do the temperature method.

Best of luck! Let us know how it goes (minus bedroom details)!

I have actually been pregnant or nursing for the majority of the past 3 years so I haven't done too much of the NFP to prevent pregnancy..but we used NFP to get pregnant both times and it worked like a charm. I followed Toni Weschler's book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" (which I believe is a fantastic book and should be required female reading by the age of 11-12 he he). My cycles are very average though, so I kind of knew what to expect but it is very helpful to take your temperature and chart that, along with the other info that goes along with your monthly cycle. I actually used a computer software program for my charting (which came with the book I used above) that was very helpful!! Good for you for getting off of the BC now! I can't stand to use it, personally. It really feels great to be so in tune with your body! Good luck with everything! Email me if you have questions! :)
