Oh She Glows Granola Bars: Success!

by on May 15, 2009

In an effort to help Angela from Oh She Glows figure out the mystery of her crumbly granola bars, I decided to try making them myself.  I followed her original recipe , with one exception: I sprinkled them with the magic fairy dust that is my Excalibur Food Dehydrator!

Oh, Cali.  How I love you.

So, you can check out Angela’s site for the full recipe.

My Gazelle’s mother bought me those beautiful orchids for Mother’s Day.  So sweet!

The result: A moist, chewy granola bar!

After preparing everything using Angela’s recipe, I left the bars in Cali at 110 degrees for 8 hours.  The granola bars ended up being the consistency of a standard Quaker Chewy Granola Bar, only way better for you, and way more filling.  I was only able to eat 1/2 this morning because I got so full.  They are very dense, and full of chewy goodness!

Just to test the waters, I even left these bars out on my cutting board last night, with only a clean towel covering them.  I wanted to make sure that the effects of the air weren’t going to make them crispy.

Not a bit of crisp…these babies are all chew, no crunch!

The only thing I wish I did was added carob or vegan chocolate chips to half of the batch, because although the bars are delish, a little chocolate can never hurt.

So, Angela…your bars were fabulous.  Thanks for the recipe!

Nope, mine did not fall apart. They are dense and lovely! =)

I bought a “blemished” Excalibur from the manufacturer on eBay. The product had never been used, but apparently their standards are so high that if anything is visually wrong with their dehydrators, they immediate pull them from the line and won’t sell them for full price. I could find absolutely nothing wrong with it!

For my Excalibur 3526T (5-tray model with timer), I paid $149.99 plus $19.99 shipping. They are regularly $209.95. I’m not sure how it would all work out since you are in Canada, but here is the address to the seller’s store on eBay: http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/excaliburdehydrator_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ. It was totally worth the money I spent for it! Have you seen my macaroons?? =)
