Redeemed

by on June 2, 2009

Just in case anyone was concerned about my Chef Boyardee “meat” stint the other day, I have officially redeemed myself.

Tonight, after a brutally hilly course on the gym’s Expresso bike, I came home and actually cooked.  Like, with pans and fire.

noodles

Since I am highly impressionable and can’t think for myself regarding matters of food, I bought these Shirataki noodles after reading a post by the other Sarah (as opposed to this Sarah).  Stay with me here.

I had never tried said Shirataki noodles, so upon reading the instructions, I boiled them for 3 minutes to separate them, then drained and schlepped them into a bowl.  I topped them with a plethora of stir-fried veggies (zucchini, squash, mushrooms, red peppers), and drizzled some Nama Shoyu on top when all was said and done.

The verdict?

DELICIOUS!  The shirataki noodles did have a rank smell when I first opened the package, but the smell was gone after I boiled them.  In fact, after boiling, they really didn’t smell (or taste) like anything.  Not even like tofu.  Interesting.

I’ll definitely purchase and eat them again.

And now, I’m off to bed.  First time in ages that I’ll be in bed at 10PM.

Really, no taste? Hungry Girl recommends these noodles but I don’t know if I’d like them. I’ve never had tofu but since I’m extremely picky, I can pretty much already tell that I wouldn’t like it. But after reading your post, maybe I’ll give them a try.

Food that needs to be boiled in order not to smell rank! My favorite!

In fact, Iurve noodles, so I might try these one day …

There truly was no taste. They sort of just tasted like the Nama Shoyu that I used on top. I am HUGE on texture, and I was scared that they would be mushy. They were actually the same texture as an al dente noodle. I was pretty impressed. Just don’t take a whiff as soon as you open the bag. You’ll be put off for sure!

Thanks for the shout out. I have actually learned to love these noodles, but agree they need a serious rinse before eating. I actually heat mine in the microwave for 2 minutes and they turn out great. They are really good in a stirfry or in place of pad thai noodles.

I just added ‘em to my grocery list!
