The Best Laid Plans.

by on September 28, 2009

I love nice, neat plans.  I’m an accountant.  We like spreadsheets and analysis and organization.

Remember this?

This was the plan that would successfully take me from The Boilermaker 15K to The Baltimore Marathon in 18 weeks.

Wasn’t is such a pretty, organized, neat plan?

I loved it.  Everything looked so predictable.  Stable.  Dependable.

Well guess what?

My training plan has gone from great to ugly in two months.

My ego is bruised.  My Sista ran 20 miles yesterday (breezed through it, by the way), while I ran 3 miles and biked 5 before I had to bail because I thought I might pass out.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m so proud of her.  She’s accomplishing something that she never thought she could do; but I wish things were happening a little easier for me.

I’ve been feeling run-down for about a week now.  I’m trying to ward off the ick, but I’m pretty sure that I’ve picked the most inconvenient time to come down with an illness.

Looking on the bright side, my 3 miles were painless.

Meh.  That’s not really much of a constellation for me at this point.  The marathon is a little over a week away, and I’m going to be thankful  to just finish within the 7 hours that they allow before closing the streets.  I will be very heartbroken and embarrassed if it takes me more than 7 hours to finish this race.

I’m trying to think positive thoughts, but it’s really difficult to do when the odds seem to continue stacking against me.

Frustrating.

Very, very frustrating.

oh I’m sorry you’ve had a tough training schedule.. sometimes I think when people start on a plan they push themselves instead of listening to their bodies, hence all the injuries. But here’s the good news…you can do this race an you will..you’ve done the mental work and that will get you through, even if it’s not exactly the race that you wanted.

Ego schmeo! You’re my Shero! Oh great now I’m rhyming, totally NOT on purpose. But, I mean it, you’re my Shero. Remember when you started this journey? Think about it, you’ve come a LONG way baby! God laughs when we make plans, that’s why most of my life is about winging it. Nothing will mess you up like a well laid out plan, and I know what I’m talking about. You are not your sister! You are Beth and Beth has a wonderful support group around her. We all love you very much. You make me PROUD! and you’ve been my inspiration. I’m exercising, eating better, and losing weight because YOU inspire me. So get on that Wonky Leg, put your bruised ego behind you, and Git Er Done!

lol, your image made me laugh… your blog is always so entertaining! But I’m sorry about your injury. Be good to yourself and your body – I’m sure you’ll surprise yourself with how well you’ll do.

Hang in there. It’ll all transpire as it’s supposed to. You can’t force your wonky knee into non-wonkiness, so you’ll have to do your best! Which is exactly what you’d do anyway!
