Oh man, I feel you on the moving. I feel like I am constantly moving. Hopefully after The Professor is done with his PhD we can start settling. I'm praying he gets a job and doesn't have to do a post-doc.

Believe me...as much as I love being "together" as much as we possibly can, I can identify with your need to have some alone time. The man and I have the opportunity to miss each other as a result of his weird rotating work schedule, and I'm sure that if children were added into the mix, I would welcome some time alone much more. =) You will have a weekend alone when we go on the NKOTB cruise!

Oh dear. I am SOOOOO connected to my family that I am DYING to go away alone and have the chance to miss them! Does that sound terrible? In the two years since our move to Podunk NC, we moved away from any and all family who used to be of the "send the kids over for an afternoon/evening/weekend" variety. We moved away from friends and sitters. We moved away from everything that allowed us to have time to do things together, time to do things on our own, ALL OF IT.
I would trade your first born son for a weekend without kids (and possibly even Trophy Husband) because I haven't had the opportunity to miss any of them in FOREVER. We are ALWAYS TOGETHER.

Wow, that is a lot of moving! Just stumbled upon your blog, but love your writing style - and we share the same first name - although while my whole family called me Beth, my wacky grandma called me Liz, which turned into Biz!

Let's see:

1968 to 1988 - Mom and Dad (with 1986 in college, which I don't really count since it was only one year!)
1988 to 1992 - Apartment with Twin Sis
1992 to 1995 - Back with Mom and Dad with my baby
1995-2000 - Two flat - me and Hannah upstairs, twin sis's family downstairs
2000 - got married!
2001 to present - living with the love of my life

I am deeply rooted and love it! Hope you find your roots too!

I've lived at home since February but I'm leaving again in August and before February, hadn't lived at home since high school so it's been awhile.

I don't attribute any other place of residence as "home". Only the place where my parents live at. For some reason, that's home to me. That's infinite comfort. I'm ok with living out of boxes, I actually don't have that much stuff and most of it can either be sold or is at my parents' house, but I'll be in DC for the next 3 years, which means temporarily settling down. I guess I'm not at the phase in life to want to be rooted down somewhere. I don't know if I'll ever be like that.

I think I just have the wandering, nomadic heart. I try to call my parents as often as possible when I'm not home but sometimes I just prefer email because it's more concrete. Skype is always a good option to (video chat). And occasionally I'll send a postcard home (even if I'm not out traveling somewhere). Parents like that random thought.
