I wasn't sure how my body would handle the post-marathon healing process, but things seem to be going pretty well...Except...

Besides the fact that I can’t seem to get rid of this strange pain in my hip, my body is pretty much healed from the marathon. I can again walk up and down stairs without a major production (or turning around backwards), and it doesn’t hurt to lie down in bed.

Yes, on Saturday night after the marathon, it actually hurt to lie down. I don’t think this is healthy.

Although my aches and pains are generally gone, traces of my marathon still remain.

First, two days ago, I came down with the largest, ugliest cold sore known to man. I’ve been plagued on and off with cold sores since I was a child, but haven’t had one in over a year. When I was at the height of my eating disorder, they were a regular occurrence.

Sexay stuff!

The fact that I got a cold sore is not surprising. Cold sores can occur several times over a person’s life after they have had their first cold sore, and they are usually brought on by fatigue, stress, and a weakened immune system. Personally, it seems like I often get them when I am allowed some downtime after several months of running (no pun intended) on high speed.

Hence, the reason why one turns up 2 days after I finish my marathon.

I’ll just continue applying coconut oil to my ugly cold sore, and hope it heals nicely before this weekend (when I actually have to face people other than my coworkers).

Sigh.

p.s…I’m wearing my marathon race shirt, and isn’t it nice??!! It’s an Under Armour shirt. Under Armour is based in Baltimore, the course goes right past their headquarters, and they were a major sponsor for the race. It’s very possible that this shirt was the best part of my race experience!

The second matter of aftermath is this.

Chafing pretty much sucks. There’s also one on the other arm. It’s slightly smaller, but no less painful.

What I’m trying to say is that I’m basically just a complete mess right now.

The good news is that the plumber cut us a break, and my faucet is fixed. Now, I can re-commence my soup-making endeavors. Luckily, he was able to fix the faucet that we already had, rather than putting a new one in for $600. Thank goodness!

I’d hate to be cold-sored, chafed, AND poor (er).

I'll do almost anything for cookies. I'll even run 26.2 miles.

My Sista is in town (yayyy!!!), and tonight we are all staying at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore so that we only have a short walk to the race start. I will be so thankful for that decision tomorrow morning when I don’t have to wake up at 4:30 to be at the race on time

We enjoyed a pasta-filled dinner tonight at Sabatino’s in Little Italy, followed by a take-out order at Vaccaro’s Italian Pastries.

And tomorrow, when I’m huffing, puffing, and likely crawling at mile 15, the knowledge that these beauties are waiting patiently for me in my comfy hotel room will pull me through the remaining 11.2 miles.

If you’re interested in keeping track of my marathon crawl, you can track me online here! Just look for the “live results” link, and enter bib #201!

Send happy mojo my way!!!

Reality is setting in. TWENTY SIX miles? Really?

It’s been a rough week for me emotionally. It could have been the Jenni Schaefer book. Or the rousing telephone conversation that I had with my Momma–my last known consistent trigger on the face of the planet. Or the fact that in almost exactly 36 hours, I will (hopefully) be celebrating the end of my marathon experience.

I’m running a marathon in 30 hours.

On creaky hips.

On wonky legs.

On an IT band that is strung as tight as the “E” string on the hand-me-down violin that I played in the 5th grade.

What have I got myself into?

Is the whole ‘I think I might throw up a little’ feeling that I’m experiencing normal at this point in taper? You know, like during the fourth week of taper. Since I’ve been tapering for like. Oh. Four weeks.

(thank you, “E string”)

To keep my mind off of the fact that I’m expecting myself to run 26 miles in 30 hours, I’m focusing on everything except the fact that I have to run 26 miles in 30 hours.

My sister is coming to town tomorrow (yay)!

I’m scheduled for jury duty tomorrow (which will be a bummer if I actually get picked).

I still haven’t decided what I’m wearing (this is of major importance, of course).

I have a lot of soup to make next week (food will take my mind off of the task at hand)!

Hey! I’m going on vacation in March. Wait. I’m doing a 1/2 marathon while I’m on vacation.

I’m running a marathon in 30 hours.

ACK!

I think you know the rest.

I love nice, neat plans. I’m an accountant. We like spreadsheets and analysis and organization.

Remember this?

This was the plan that would successfully take me from The Boilermaker 15K to The Baltimore Marathon in 18 weeks.

Wasn’t is such a pretty, organized, neat plan?

I loved it. Everything looked so predictable. Stable. Dependable.

Well guess what?

My training plan has gone from great to ugly in two months.

My ego is bruised. My Sista ran 20 miles yesterday (breezed through it, by the way), while I ran 3 miles and biked 5 before I had to bail because I thought I might pass out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so proud of her. She’s accomplishing something that she never thought she could do; but I wish things were happening a little easier for me.

I’ve been feeling run-down for about a week now. I’m trying to ward off the ick, but I’m pretty sure that I’ve picked the most inconvenient time to come down with an illness.

Looking on the bright side, my 3 miles were painless.

Meh. That’s not really much of a constellation for me at this point. The marathon is a little over a week away, and I’m going to be thankful to just finish within the 7 hours that they allow before closing the streets. I will be very heartbroken and embarrassed if it takes me more than 7 hours to finish this race.

I’m trying to think positive thoughts, but it’s really difficult to do when the odds seem to continue stacking against me.

Frustrating.

Very, very frustrating.

* Have you joined my Facebook Group yet?
