Sweat Props

by on May 25, 2010

I’m glad that everyone liked my PACOS yesterday! I never thought that POM would pair nicely with chicken tacos, but it definitely did! My lunch leftovers yesterday were even better than the original!

Alicia asked yesterday how My Gazelle acquired that name. So, for anyone who missed that moment in history, you probably want to read the story of how he effortlessly smoked me in a 5K. When I discovered him after the race, his sweat had completely dried. He was sipping water and chatting with an old friend.

It was actually fun re-reading that post, because at the time when I wrote it, he was still my boyfriend (now he’s my fiance), he was only attending his martial arts class twice a week (Ha! That would be a treat…he’s in black belt cycle now!), and he did a 5K in 24 minutes (he squashed his most recent 5K in about 20 minutes). I still want to kick him in his shin.

Speaking of sweating, I love asking questions on Twitter. I love the fact that I can throw a question out into the Twitterverse, and I get back several different opinions, many of which I would have never considered if left to my own (Twitterless) devices. Yesterday, I asked this question:

To me, this is a very important question. I love fitness stuff. I love trying things out, and I wanted to see if I’ve missed the boat on anything over the past year! This is what the Twitterverse answered:

Clearly, everyone loves their Garmin!

So how about you? What’s the best fitness-related item that you’ve purchased in the past year?

I’ll be featuring some of these products in an upcoming post so that everyone can be in the know!

The Twitter-ers covered it—My Garmin is awesome (mostly b/c it facilitates my obsessive need for data), and my foam roller was a lifesaver for my sore hip and calves. Other than the already mentioned, another favorite fitness purchase was Bondi Band headbands. They keep the sweat out of my eyes, my bangs back, and look good doing it!

Garmin? Does yours do something mine does not because I just bought a fancy Garmin, the ONLY thing it has ever done besides get me to a specified address is direct me quickly to the nearest Chinese buffet. Maybe I should read the manual!

My favorite is a sports bra for my 11 year old. I did not know they had childrens sports bras and I found 20 options at Dicks Sporting Goods. She said she feels more comfy playing soccer and I feel more comfortable that she is not bouncing all over the place.

Hmm I use my Garmin A LOT but I wonder if it really is my best purchase… I’m going to be pondering this now

Sheesh. Mr. Gazelle is a fast one. Well whatever. I will keep running like the silent predator I am, so when he least expects it, DEATH BY STEALTH! I win.

Anyway, my favorite/best fitness-related purchase this year was my Vibram FiveFingers. Who needs a device that can tell you how far/fast you’ve run when you can have these shoesock things that help you connect and feel the earth that you are running on? As much as I think garmins are pretty tech-savvy, you don’t need them to run. I like feeling the ground beneath my feet. I like feeling like I’m a silent predator, plodding quietly along. I like breathing the air around me when I run. And my VFFs let that happen.

If my Mr. ran, he’d smoke me–he is all long legs! However, I’m not sure he’d be able to run more than a mile so I’d end up passing him being passed out on the side of the road at mile 1.2.

My best buys, which I love equally and unabashedly, are my Nike+ and my foam roller. I feel motivated with the Nike+ (but not guilty that I don’t run super-long runs to justify the cost of a garmin) and the foam roller has nixed my IT issues completely.

I love my foam roller too!

That is a tie between my HRM and my Power Sculpt Video from the Biggest Loser!
